Letter: Nestor an “Easy Choice”
To the Editor:
I strongly encourage voters to cast their votes for Sam Nestor, Democratic candidate for the 26th State Senate District.
Unlike the state House of Representatives, in which I long served, senators in the majority are asked to chair a committee as soon as they arrive. Therefore, there’s an added expectation for senators to take the initiative and learn how to run things. It’s a short learning curve.
Sam Nestor has already demonstrated the kind of leadership we need in Hartford. As First Selectperson of Weston, Sam has experienced the hurly burly of government, both political and policy-wise. She has been up to Hartford any number of times, advocating for Weston and municipal issues before the Legislature. She knows how the place works and how to be effective. She’s already established relationships.
Equally importantly, Sam Nestor is absolutely her own person. She doesn’t fit neatly into a progressive or moderate pigeonhole; she does her homework and makes independent decisions on what’s the right thing to do. I’m counting on her to resist political pressures, which all legislators encounter, and lead her caucus rather than yield to it. Sam has the seasoning and the cred to pull that off.
Hey, this is a pretty easy choice to make! Your vote for Sam Nestor will continue the series of top-notch Democratic senators we’ve sent to Hartford.
Early voting has started, so just go do it!
— State Rep. Jonathan Steinberg
