Letter: Woody Bliss’s Legacy

To the Editor:
Sherwood Bliss, affectionately known as Woody to his close friends and family, passed on Monday, July 7, 2025, after having moved from Weston in September of last year to be closer to his family in Charlotte, NC.
Weston has lost a gentle giant with his passing.
No matter what he did, be it volunteering, serving on various boards, attending many assorted meetings, Woody always gave it his all. If there was ever an event that lacked volunteers, charity or otherwise, everyone knew exactly who to call.
Everything he did was important to him, whether it was attending church, weddings, funerals, graduations, sporting events, or gatherings of the entire Bliss family for vacations. It didn’t matter if there were conflicts — he made it happen.
Initially, his hobbies included skiing and Hobie Cat racing, for which he won many trophies. However, in his later years, he enjoyed more relaxing trips on a sailboat out of Saugatuck Harbor Yacht Club.
Woody’s legacy may well be serving others, volunteering, and always offering a warm and welcoming greeting to all, and he will be greatly missed by all in his community.
