Underage Drinking Leads to Arrest

When officers arrived, they found about 50 to 60 people at the house, many appearing to be juveniles. The police report that a number in the gathering immediately fled, and officers saw drink containers being discarded.

The police issued a misdemeanor summons to the homeowner, Jacqueline B. Austin, charging her with Permitting a Minor to Possess Alcohol. She is scheduled to appear at Stamford Superior Court on August 24.

Connecticut Statute 30-89a, known as the social host law, makes it a crime for an adult who controls a private property to knowingly, recklessly, or with criminal negligence permit a person under 21 to possess alcohol, or to fail to stop it when they know it is happening.
