Norfield Congregational Church is observing the 250th anniversary of the United States with a four-part sermon series titled “America at 250 — Beautiful. Broken. Beloved. Becoming.”
Everyone is invited to the sermons, which take place each Sunday in July at 10:00 am. “We believe there is room in this conversation for faithful gratitude, honest questions, and the hope of a new birth of freedom,” said Rev. Dr. Bernard R. Wilson. “Come curious.”
The series, meant to explore what freedom, faith, hope, and responsibility mean in this moment, begins on Sunday, July 5 with “Prisoners of Hope,” an invitation to reflect on America’s blessings and shortcomings, embracing a hope that is deeper than nostalgia and grounded in faith.
On July 12, “What Kind of Soil Will We Be?” asks whether freedom is a finished monument or a seed and explores the responsibility of cultivating a future rooted in justice, compassion, and faithfulness.
On July 19, “Surely God Is in This Place” explores whether grace can “still wash ashore when the world is groaning.” The 10:00 service is preceded by a special beach service at 8:30 am at Compo Beach.
On July 26, the series concludes with “Give Us a Listening Heart,” a call to wisdom, deeper listening, discernment, and hope for generations yet to come.
