Voters at a lightly attended Special Town Meeting on June 23 unanimously approved issuing up to $1.4 million in bonds to replace the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system at Hurlbutt Elementary School’s North House.

Another $1 million will be drawn from the Town’s unreserved fund balance for the $2.4 million project which, once completed, is expected to qualify for more than $400,000 in reimbursements from the State’s Indoor Air Quality grant program.

Once installed, the new system will address long-standing issues at North House at a time of increased focus at the State level on air quality in school buildings.
