Fireworks Set for July 3

Weston’s traditional July 4th party and fireworks show takes place a day early this year, set for Friday, July 3 at the Weston Middle School field.
And on Sunday the 5th, Parks and Recreation has planned an old-fashioned field day at Morehouse Park. More on that in a second.
Weston normally celebrates right on the 4th and will again in the future, said Parks & Rec Director Joe Parciasepe. This year was a bit of a scramble. Mr. Parciasepe said the 250th increased demand for pyrotechnic vendors as more cities and towns than usual scheduled fireworks displays. And, as we understand it, one vendor that was being counted on for the 4th backed out, leaving July 3 the only option.
Gates open at 4:30. Fireworks go off at dusk, around 8:30. There will be plenty of food trucks, ice cream, and the like. For music, at 5:30 the Westport Community Band perform. At 6:30, it’s Owen Daniel. At 7:30, the popular cover band Fake ID take the stage.
Admission is $20 per car, $5 for walk-ins. At press time, premier parking spots ($30) are available at the Parks and Recreation office, and only one more Tailgate Tent space remains to be had. The tent spaces, $100, get two parking spots, a great view of the field, and room to set up a tent decorated with creativity and spirit. (An award goes to the most impressive one.)
On the 5th
The Old-Fashioned Field Day features relay races, sack races, a tug-of-war, a kickball tournament, and other similar activities.
It takes place from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Morehouse. Hot food off the Gridiron Grill will be available.
You can just show up.
For the field day’s kickball tournament, you should register. The plan envisions participants forming or joining a team of 10 to 12 players, so the final format depends on how many people sign up.
You can register by navigating the web a bit, starting in the Parks & Rec portal. Once there, scroll down to Special Events, then click on July Festivities.
Registration is $5 per player. Red teams are for those age 15 and above. Blue teams are for families, all ages. White teams are for kids age 5 and under. Games, a minimum of two per team, will be seven innings or 30 minutes.
