Weston High School students Alexander Zhao-Ming Sung and Isabelle Collins were honored on May 12 as winners in the 21st annual eesmarts student contest by Energize Connecticut.
Mr. Sung (photo above) and Ms. Collins (sorry, no photo) won first and third place respectively in the contest's Persuasive Image division, one of two categories for high school students.
Mr. Sung's entry was “The True Cost of Energy,” a 12-cell comic strip illustrating the effects of legacy energy sources versus new, cleaner sources. It concludes by encouraging readers to “choose energy that doesn’t cost our future!”
Ms. Collins submitted a persuasive image illustrating how hydropower can be harnessed and used as a clean energy alternative.
More than 380 Connecticut students submitted projects for consideration. 35 entries from 21 schools in 23 communities were selected as finalists. The awards ceremony took place at the Connecticut Science Center in Hartford.
Energize Connecticut is an initiative of the State of Connecticut in partnership with the Connecticut Green Bank, Eversource, United Illuminating, Connecticut Natural Gas, and Southern Connecticut Gas.
