Rescued Hawk Free as a Bird

On Saturday, members of Weston Kiwanis looked on as a red-tailed hawk was released back into the wild by Dara Reid, director of the Wildlife in Crisis center in Weston.
“We take in all species of wildlife,” Ms. Reid told club members. The injured hawk, now fully recovered after being struck by a car, is one of thousands of birds and animals taken in each year at the care facility founded by Ms. Reid in 1988.
And yet, said Ms. Reid, “people often don’t know we exist.” That tends to change, she said, when they find an injured animal. A call to the police or a veterinarian is when “all arrows point to us.”
Wildlife in Crisis is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization run by volunteers and funded entirely by donations.
