Sen. Maher Won’t Seek Reelection
State Senator Ceci Maher announced that she will not seek reelection to a third term in 2026.
First elected in 2022, the senator’s 26th district contains Weston, Westport, Wilton, Redding, and parts of Ridgefield, New Canaan, Darien and Stamford.
Serving in the legislature, said Ms. Maher, “has been an incredible opportunity. It’s the most remarkable thing at this stage of my life to meet the people I’ve met and take on new challenges to really make a difference. I’ve felt like a kid in a candy store.”
“I love this job,” said the senator in her announcement. “And I have the energy, will, and interest to keep serving. However, as a member of the Baby Boomer generation, I’m aware of the shifting focuses and needs of our state and county.”
Children have been the focus of much of Ms. Maher’s work in the State Senate, where she serves as chair of the Committee on Children and tri-chair of the Transforming Children’s Behavioral Health Policy and Planning Committee.
She is proud of being instrumental in the creation of Connecticut’s Early Childhood Education Endowment, the first fund of its kind in the nation, designed to grow capacity to enhance childcare for both families and providers. In the Senate, she has also played a key role in the development of measures to protect children, improve education and air quality in schools, and protect consumers and victims of domestic violence.
Senator Maher’s term expires at the end of the year. She said she plans to spend more time with her family, especially her new grandchildren, and is excited to have the opportunity to garden again.
