A Super Bowl Party for Veterans
Weston Kiwanis Club sponsored a Super Bowl Party on February 8 for the 38 male veterans living at Homes for the Brave and the 10 female veterans living at Maderas Home for Women Veterans in Bridgeport.
The club has been offering the party on Super Bowl Sunday since 2011.
Homes for the Brave is the umbrella organization for Maderas Home. The organization works to provide housing and services that help veterans return to a productive and meaningful life with safe, affordable housing and a livable income.
After food and pastries donated by Kiwanis members were collected at the Norfield Church parking lot (temperature: 0ยบ), Kiwanians traveled to Homes for the Brave, where they reheated spiral ham, roasted chicken, chili, mac and cheese, canned beans, rice and red beans, and pulled pork. Tasty treats included cake, cookies, brownies, chips, salsa, guacamole, soda, and a mixed green salad with tomatoes. Beverages were provided by the Bridgeport Kiwanis Club. After serving, club members washed the dishes and headed home.
