On Friday, the Weston Volunteer Fire Department dedicated a new, long-awaited Rescue 5 fire truck, a critical piece of safety equipment that replaces an aged-out vehicle never large enough, reliable enough, or maneuverable enough to meet the department’s needs.
In June of 2022, voters approved the ARPA grant distribution plan that allocated $535,000 to purchase the new apparatus, augmented by a pledge from the fire department to provide an additional $165,000 from its endowment.
Chief John Pokorny said equipment on the truck was funded by contributions, including the donation of Hurst extrication tools by the Weston Gun Club.
