Westport: What’s Happening

In a podcast, Westport First Selectwoman Jen Tooker discusses the status of plans to reconfigure municipal parking lots and extend access to the Saugatuck River.

Ms. Tooker says plans are divided into two phases to minimize disruption to the downtown area. She says the first phase, having to do with the Parking Harding lot, is fully approved and ready to go out to bid.

Phase 2, says Ms. Tooker, is early in the design process and must address the loss of spaces at Parker Harding, provide more green space, and examine whether to relocate police headquarters and build a parking structure.

Ms. Tooker also reports that the town is implementing three-hour parking enforcement in 500 municipal parking spaces and is now charging for electric vehicle recharging in designated spaces, which she says are underutilized.
