It's a dog party next door in Westport on Sunday the 17th, when the annual Westport Dog Festival takes place at Winslow Park from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

"It’s a three ring circus of activities that will celebrate everything dog, so bring yours!" said Matthew Mandell, executive director of the Westport Weston Chamber of Commerce.

The Festival includes informative demonstrations, goofy competitions, a police K9 presentation, kids activities, vendors, food trucks, picture taking, caricatures, kids tattoos, and giveaways.

Competitions include best tail wagger, best dressed, best kisser, best trick, best lap dog over 50 pounds, and dog that most looks like its owner. There will be adoptable pets on hand too.

Parking is available at the Westport Country Playhouse and at some neighboring businesses. Look for designated lots on the Post Road.

The Festival entrance fee is $10 per person and $25 for a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children). Proceeds will benefit non-profit organizations. Festivals in years past have resulted in over $22,000 donated by the Chamber to deserving groups.

Dog owners can register for the competitions online or at the festival. All the details can be found at the Chamber of Commerce website.

The rain date for the Westport Dog Festival is Sunday, October 24.

Editor’s Note: The Dog Festival, originally scheduled for October 10 as reported in the initial version of this article, was postponed to October 17 due to the prospect of inclement weather. This edition has been revised accordingly.
